*ÒKÈÒGÙN ARISE: FOR YOUR TIME HAS COME*
*Favour Adéwọyin,*
October 20, 2025.
This article is a call on Òkèògùn people to rise, unite and claim their place in history in 2027. For decades, Òkèògùn region has remained a silent pillar of Ọ̀yọ́ State. It is rich in culture, abundant in human and natural resources, steadfast in loyalty, and unbroken in spirit.
Yet, from the days of the old Western Region till this very moment, Òkèògùn has been deliberately sidelined and systematically excluded from the highest seat of power, that is, the Governorship of Ọ̀yọ́ State.
It is good to say that this long-standing neglect is not only an affront to our collective dignity but also a direct contradiction of the principles of fairness, justice, equity, equality, and inclusivity that define true democracy.
Across Nigeria, states have embraced the noble spirit of rotation and inclusion, thereby allowing every region, every people, and every community to partake in leadership. It is a gesture of unity and fairness; a recognition that no part of a state should be perpetually denied its rightful turn to lead. Yet, Òkèògùn, despite its immense contributions to the political, economic, and educational development of Ọ̀yọ́ State, continues to be left behind in the power equation.
From the cocoa, palm, cashew, sheabutter, locus bin, grain and tuber wealth of our fertile lands to the brilliance of our scholars, professionals, and patriots who have served selflessly at every level of government, Òkèògùn has never been found wanting. We have produced men and women of intellect, integrity, and capacity — quality individuals who have shaped policies, strengthened institutions, and advanced progress in countless ways. Yet, when it comes to occupying the most powerful office in the state, Òkèògùn has been consistently overlooked.
This is not just political exclusion; it is moral injustice. It is a denial of identity and contribution. But, the time has come to correct this historical imbalance. The time has come for Òkèògùn to rise — united, determined, and purposeful — to claim what rightfully belongs to her.
Let no one deceive us with empty promises or divide us with petty politics. The 2027 Governorship election must be our collective resolve — not for personal ambition, but for the restoration of dignity, for the rewriting of history, and for the realisation of the Òkèògùn dream. We must speak with one voice, move with one purpose, and stand firm in our conviction that it is Òkèògùn’s turn — not as a plea, but as a right.
A people who forget their worth will forever remain forgotten. But Òkèògùn will not be forgotten. Not anymore. We must rise, mobilise, and champion one of our own — a son who embodies our values, understands our pains, and represents our collective aspiration for a fair, just, and inclusive Ọ̀yọ́ State.
History is calling. Posterity is watching. Let Òkèògùn rise to answer. Let justice be done. Let fairness prevail. Let 2027 be the year Òkèògùn stands tall — and finally takes its rightful place in the leadership of Ọ̀yọ́ State.
Òkèògùn, arise — for your time has come.
