*Oke Ogun Sons and Daughters, Be Wise: What the Zones That Have Occupied Governorship Enjoy – And Don't Want Others to Know*

Dear sons and daughters of Oke Ogun,

This is a time for reflection, awareness, and action. For decades, Oke Ogun, despite being one of the most resource-rich and culturally significant regions in Oyo State, has remained on the sidelines of political leadership – particularly in the governorship of our dear state.

Other zones – Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo – have had their turns in government house.

They have tasted the power, resources, and privileges that come with the governorship seat. But let us ask ourselves:

What exactly do these zones enjoy when they occupy the seat of power? And why is it that they do not want others – especially Oke Ogun – to experience the same?

Let us break it down:

1. *Control Over State Resources*

The zone that holds the governorship controls the flow of state resources. They decide:

Where major infrastructure projects go

Which communities get access roads, hospitals, universities, dams, and factories.

Who gets appointments – commissioners, board members, consultants

When someone from your zone holds the governorship, your region automatically becomes a priority.

2. *Strategic Appointments and Empowerment*

Governors appoint people they know and trust. Naturally, these appointees are:

From their own towns or zones

Family, political allies, or ethnic connections

This creates a cycle of empowerment – job creation, business contracts, youth programs – all revolving around their zone, while others remain bystanders.

3. *Cultural Recognition and Historical Legacy*

Having a governor from your zone puts your people on the map:

Your culture is promoted at the state level

Your festivals and history are recognized and supported

Your towns become destinations for investment and tourism

Oke Ogun has a rich culture, yet we are often absent from the headlines, simply because we’ve never held the key to the state house.

4. *Infrastructural Development*

Look around Oyo State:

Who has the best roads?

Who has industrial parks?

Where are the tertiary institutions being sited?

When governors come from a region, they naturally bring development home – not out of selfishness alone, but because it’s what they know.

5. *Political Respect and Bargaining Power*

The region that produces a governor earns respect. They are:

Feared politically

Consulted before decisions

Given strategic party positions

Without occupying the top seat, Oke Ogun remains an afterthought in party politics and state decisions.

6. *Access to Federal Recognition*

A governor from your zone becomes a national figure. He or she:

Attracts federal projects

Builds networks with other governors

Can recommend people for federal boards and appointments

These benefits trickle down to their local government, their zone, and their people.

So Why Don't They Want Us to Know?

Because if we knew our worth, we would stop selling our votes.

If we knew what true leadership brings, we would stop trading our future for small-time political appointments or party favours.

They don’t want us to ask questions like:

Why has Oke Ogun never produced a governor despite contributing massively to agriculture , politics and the economy?

Why are our roads still death traps?

Why do our graduates remain unemployed while others enjoy government contracts?

A Call to Action

Sons and daughters of Oke Ogun:

Let us wake up.

Let us unite beyond party lines.

Let us support our own, not just any politician who gives money.

Let us demand our right to lead.

Leadership is not a gift. It is a responsibility, and we must take our turn.

The time of political ignorance is over. The time of Oke Ogun Enlightenment has come.

Say it loud:

Oke ogun lokan!

"Oke Ogun deserves the governorship."

Not for pride, but for progress, equity, and justice.

Let’s be wise. Let’s be united. Let’s make it happen.
