*ÒKÈÒGÙN: THE TIME TO DELAY GRATIFICATION AND EMBRACE PATRIOTISM*

October 29, 2025.
There comes a defining moment in the life of every people when history demands courage, restraint, and sacrifice from their leaders. For the Òkèògùn region of Ọ̀yọ́ State, that time is now. It is a time to rise above personal appetites and short-term gains; a time to reject the fleeting comfort of stomach infrastructure and embrace the enduring virtue of patriotism — the kind that puts the collective good before individual gratification.
In our rich Yoruba wisdom, we say, “Ohun tá a ó jẹ́ l’àgbà, ohun tá a ó jẹ.” What one will become is greater than what one will eat. This timeless truth calls our attention to destiny over indulgence, purpose over pleasure, and posterity over politics of the belly. The political elites of Òkèògùn must internalise this saying and act with foresight. Leadership is not about what one can collect today, but what one can contribute for tomorrow.
For decades, Òkèògùn has been a loyal partner in the political evolution of Ọ̀yọ́ State. Yet, the region still stands at the periphery of power — not because it lacks capable minds or committed patriots, but because unity has too often been traded for crumbs from the table of transient political power. The time has come to reverse that narrative.
True statesmanship requires the ability to delay gratification for the sake of a greater goal. If our leaders can resist the lure of instant benefits and stand together for the collective aspiration of producing the next governor from Òkèògùn, they will be sowing a seed that will outlive them. The fruit of such sacrifice will not only reward them in due course but will also secure dignity, development, and recognition for generations yet unborn.
Let it be known that the struggle for power rotation is not a selfish ambition — it is a quest for fairness, balance, and justice. It is a moral demand rooted in equity and shared destiny. If Òkèògùn leaders can close ranks and prioritise this common vision, their unity will become an unshakable force that even the strongest political wind cannot uproot.
History is kind to those who place posterity above personal gain. The path may be rough, but the destination is glorious. Every sacrifice made today to make the collective dream of Òkèògùn governorship a reality will never be in vain. It will be rewarded — by providence, by the people, and by the verdict of time.
Let Òkèògùn elites, therefore, rise in wisdom and maturity. Let them remember that destiny is greater than delicacy — “Ohun tá a ó jẹ́ l’àgbà, ohun tá a ó jẹ.” The meal of the moment will pass, but the glory of a fulfilled regional destiny will endure forever.
Now is the moment to choose posterity over politics, legacy over luxury, and unity over fleeting advantage. Òkèògùn’s time will come — if only her leaders can delay gratification and stand together for the greater good.
