*Oke-Ogun: A Call to Unity Before the 2027 Governorship Election*

By Akeem Bonuola

As the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State approaches, the Oke-Ogun region finds itself at a critical juncture. Historically marginalised, this region must now speak with one voice and make a collective decision that will determine its future trajectory. The choice we make will either propel us toward progress or plunge us into regret.

In light of this, it is disheartening to witness the growing desperation among some politicians in Oke-Ogun. Their willingness to accept anything less than the governorship, including deputy governorship position and party leadership roles, is not only dangerous but also a betrayal of the collective interests and aspirations of the region. We must not forget that these positions have been offered to us many times in the past, only to be undermined by governors from other regions, leaving us with little to no tangible development of Oke-Ogun region.

The principle of rotational governorship, though challenging, remains the most viable path to equitable leadership and sustainable development. Rather than allowing ourselves to be divided and ruled by other regions, we must unite and work collectively to seize political power. Our love for Oke-Ogun should compel us to make sacrifices in the right way, meaningfully, respectfully, and with love, unity and maturity towards achieving our GOAL - Gomina Oyo Awa Lokan.

To every patriotic son and daughter of Oke-Ogun, I urge you to think twice before accepting positions that may undermine our collective interests. Let us not allow greed or desperation to dictate our decisions, leading to outcomes that could destroy our chances of progress. The unity and survival of the Oke-Ogun region depend on our collective wisdom, restraint, and patriotism.

We are at a crossroads, and the decisions we make now will have far-reaching consequences for generations to come. Let us rise above petty differences, hatred, and desperation. Let us unite to claim our rightful place in the political landscape of Oyo State. We must not allow politicians from Ibadan and other regions to manipulate and exploit us for their gain. Instead, let us prioritise the greater good of our region and work together to secure a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.
