*USE YOUR TIME AND OPPORTUNITY WELL*

Life is a journey measured in time and seasons. No season lasts forever, and no position remains permanent. Every office we attain—whether by appointment, selection, recruitment, or election—is a temporary privilege entrusted to us for a divine and human purpose. The moment you step into any position, remind yourself that you are not there for eternity. You are there for a season. And seasons change.

A position is not given for personal pleasure; it is given for performance. It is not a throne for self-indulgence; it is a platform for service. It is not a license to enrich yourself, your family, or your inner circle; it is an opportunity to uplift the people whose hopes rest on your leadership. Every position tests the heart of its holder, and both God and men are watching what you will do with the privilege placed in your hands.

Understand this truth:

You lose nothing when you use your position to serve humanity. But you lose everything—respect, honour, legacy, and even the favour of God—when you use it to serve only yourself.

Every office is an examination hall. Every season of leadership is a test. The true mark you leave behind is not the wealth you gather but the impact you create, not the power you wield but the lives you touch, not the influence you command but the good you commit to humanity.

This reality echoes a timeless Yoruba proverb:

“Ohun ti n tan l'ọdun eegin t'omo Alagbaaa o f’owo r’akara je.” - meaning: The masquerade season will soon end, and the children of the chief masquerader will no longer enjoy free bean-cake; they too will pay for akara to eat with their pap when the festivities cease.

In essence, every season ends. The glamour fades. The privileges disappear. The applause quiets. The titles expire. What remains—what truly endures—is the legacy you leave behind and the testimony your stewardship writes in the hearts of people.

Therefore, whenever life grants you the opportunity to hold a position—great or small—use your time wisely. Serve God faithfully. Serve humanity sincerely. Lead with integrity. Act with compassion. Build something that will outlive your tenure and speak for you when your voice is no longer loud in the corridors of power.

Time will pass. Seasons will change. Opportunities will close. But the legacy of good you do will remain—a light for generations to come.

Use your time well.

Use your opportunity well.

And let your season be remembered for honour, service, and impact.

But, if you chose to use your time and season to oppress people like an emperor, what you have done to people and your community will keep speaking about you long after you left office. Nothing, I mean nothing, will last forever.

Like our brother and friend Tunji Ajibade will say: Ronu si! Think about it!
