OKE-OGUN INDIGENOUS YOUTHS PLEAD TO OKEHO LANDLORDS

The Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youths Solidarity Forum, under the leadership of Comrade Dr. Ojedokun Jonathan, is making a passionate and humble appeal to all landlords and property owners in Okeho to kindly consider the plight of students, particularly those of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, who are scheduled to resume academic activities in March.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, the National Secretary, Comrade Adedeji Lateef Adewale, expressed deep concern over the current cost of accommodation within the community. According to him, the prevailing rent prices are becoming increasingly unaffordable for many students and their families.

“A single room costing ₦90,000 per annum and a three-bedroom flat going for ₦270,000 per year is beyond the financial reach of many students,” he stated. “Most of these students come from modest backgrounds, and their parents are already struggling with tuition fees, feeding, transportation, books, and other essential expenses.”

The Forum emphasized that while landlords have the right to earn fair returns on their investments, there is also a moral responsibility to support the educational growth of the community. Education remains one of the strongest pillars of development, and accessible accommodation plays a crucial role in enabling students to focus on their studies without unnecessary financial stress.

“We respectfully implore landlords in Okeho to demonstrate empathy and understanding. Let us show compassion and avoid further increases in rent prices at this critical time. By doing so, we will be strengthening the future of our land and investing in the success of our own children,” Comrade Adewale appealed.

The Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youths Solidarity Forum believes that affordable housing will not only benefit students but will also promote peaceful coexistence, economic stability, and long-term development within Okeho. A supportive environment for students will enhance the town’s reputation as a welcoming academic community and encourage sustainable growth.

Let Okeho be known not only as a host community but as a caring and progressive one — a land where education is valued and youths are supported.

We therefore kindly call on all landlords and relevant stakeholders to reconsider current pricing structures and work collaboratively toward making accommodation more accessible and student-friendly.

Together, we can build a stronger Okeho for present and future generations.

Signed:
