*LET US STOP TARNISHING OUR PEOPLE FROM ÒKÈ-ÒGÙN BECAUSE OF POLITICS*

Politics is only for a season. The person who stands as your superior today may become your follower tomorrow, and the one you look down upon today may rise to become a great and celebrated leader in the future. History has shown us, time and again, that the tides of politics are unpredictable and ever-changing. That is why we must be deliberate and careful never to destroy cherished relationships, hard-earned reputations, and the precious unity of our people simply because of political differences.

Our families will always remain our families. Our blood will always remain our blood. Òkè-Ògùn will always remain our home — the land of our fathers, the cradle of our identity, and the foundation of our shared destiny. No political position, no matter how highly sought after, is worth the destruction of the bonds that hold us together as a people.

We must therefore stop the culture of tarnishing, insulting, and pulling down our own brothers and sisters in the name of politics. We must stop weaponizing social media and public platforms to destroy the image of our own people. When we attack one another, we do not only wound individuals — we wound the entire Òkè-Ògùn family. We weaken our collective voice, diminish our influence, and rob our communities of the dignity they deserve.

Political positions are temporary. Titles come and go. Offices change hands. But our brotherhood, our culture, our traditions, and our community are permanent. Long after the elections are over, we will still be neighbours. We will still attend the same ceremonies, share the same markets, drink from the same rivers, and bury our loved ones in the same soil. Let us not sacrifice what is eternal for what is fleeting.

We call on all sons and daughters of Òkè-Ògùn — whether in Oyo State, across Nigeria, or in the diaspora — to embrace a new standard of political engagement. Let us practice mature, responsible, and peaceful politics. Let us support healthy competition rooted in ideas, integrity, and genuine service to the people. Let us respect one another, even in disagreement. Let us promote unity, development, and progress rather than hatred, bitterness, and unnecessary division.

Our region deserves better. Our children are watching. Future generations will inherit whatever foundation we lay today — and we owe them a legacy of dignity, solidarity, and strength, not one of division and shame.

Together, we can build a stronger, more united, and truly progressive Òkè-Ògùn — for ourselves, for our children, and for generations yet unborn.

United we stand. Divided we fall.
